I provide an approach that is individualized and supportive, offering insight and the ability to help you process and understand possible maladaptive coping strategies or patterns in order to help you lead the life you want. I provide individual therapy to children, adolescents and adults, as well as therapy to couples and families. I use an integrated approach to therapy utilizing techniques grounded in cognitive-behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, behavioral modification, acceptance therapy, mindfulness-based therapy, and solution focused therapy.  

Anxiety

 Anxiety disorders can cause someone to experience excessive worry daily to the point that it inhibits your functioning. You might feel constant worry and fear and have a hard time stopping the negative thought patterns. You might also experience somatic (physical) symptoms, such as increased heart rate, increased breathing rate, sweating, palpitations, shortness of breath, dizziness, etc. You might have difficulty staying calm, experience nervousness, difficulty sleeping, restlessness, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, panic attacks, and avoidance of certain situations. Anxiety diagnoses can range from Generalized Anxiety Disorder to Panic Disorder to phobia specific disorders to Social Anxiety Disorder. I can help you get to the root of your anxiety and utilize tools such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to change thought patterns, to mindfulness tools to aid in reduction of anxious feelings. I tailor treatment to fit your specific needs.

Depression

Depression is a diagnosis that pervades all aspects of a person’s life. It can drastically affect your occupational and social functioning. Depression can range in severity. Depression causes you to feel hopeless, experience fluctuations in your mood, sleep patterns and eating habits. You might experience decreased interest or pleasure in activities, isolation, irritability, low self-esteem, fatigue, lack of motivation or concentration and even thoughts of suicide. Trauma

 Trauma can be triggered by experiencing a highly stressful and traumatic event. Trauma can cause a range of emotional and physical symptoms. A person can feel trauma immediately after an event or more long term. Some examples of trauma might be bullying, harassment, sexual assault, abuse, natural disasters, sudden loss of a loved one, war or accidents.

 Immediately after an event, up to one month after, you might experience an Acute Stress Disorder. Acute Trauma typically is after a single traumatic event that is limited in time.

 If symptoms persist after one month, you might experience what Is known as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). You might experience emotional responses such as denial, fear, anger, sadness, shame, hopelessness, and irritability. You may have emotional outbursts that are difficult to cope with. You may experience flashbacks of the event or even nightmares. You may experience physical symptoms such as headaches, fatigue, and hypervigilance. Someone might experience chronic trauma through prolonged or repeated trauma. With the right tools and interventions, trauma can be worked through and treated.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)  

ADHD is a mental health disorder consists of persistent problems often at school/work, socially and at home. ADHD is most often diagnosed in childhood but can be diagnosed later in adulthood., often due to not recognizing it earlier in life. ADHD causes difficulty paying attention, hyperactivity or inattention, impulsive behavior, difficulty focusing and difficulty completing tasks. ADHD can lead to instability in relationships, poor work or school performance and low self-esteem. I work with both children/adolescents and adults with ADHD looking to improve their focus, attention and productivity. Through the use of coping tools and interventions, I can help you to lead a more productive lifestyle.

 

Adjustment Disorder

An Adjustment Disorder is typically diagnosed when you have difficulty adjusting to a change in your life or experience a stressful event. You might experience more stress than would normally be expected and it can cause significant changes to your emotional or behavioral responses. An Adjustment Disorder might be experienced after a big life transitions, such as going to college, getting married, having a child or a new job. It can also be experienced after a more sudden change or event, such as death or illness. You tend to experience symptoms such as anxiety and depression. If symptoms persist, they can turn into more severe condition, such as Major Depressive Disorder. Psychotherapy is useful to understand the root of the problem and develop coping tools to aid in reducing these symptoms.

Children

 We are here to support your family's needs in a welcoming, child-friendly environment. We utilize play therapy to help children express themselves, work on their problems, "try on" different solutions, and learn more effective coping methods. Our collaborative objectives could look like:
